Diergaarde Blijdorp lottery
From closure to success: Blijdorp’s digital lottery during the pandemic
During the 2020 lockdown, Diergaarde Blijdorp had to close its doors for an extended period. Due to a lack of income, the care of the animals was at risk. To address this, Blijdorp organized an digital lottery, achieving a wide reach and a fantastic result! Since then, they have regularly hosted lotteries.
250,000 tickets sold – the lottery was sold out!
Nearly €600,000 raised
Over 40,000 participants
130 "Blijdorperts" sold tickets via an ambassador link
A creative prize package
Creative prize package
The prize package consisted of unique experiences. Ever dreamed of a dinner at a special location in Diergaarde Blijdorp? Or a day as a zookeeper? Or perhaps a glamping overnight stay with a view of the elephants, surrounded by the rustling, snoring, and growling of the animals? By purchasing a ticket, participants had a chance to win these ‘money can’t buy’ prizes. A brilliant idea, as these experiences didn’t cost Blijdorp much. Additionally, the creative prize package attracted plenty of media attention.
Promotion
Blijdorp took a bold approach to the promotion, ensuring the lottery didn’t go unnoticed. By the first day, the fundraiser had already raised €100,000! With publications in major outlets like De Telegraaf, AD, and Hart van Nederland, the lottery had a strong start. The promotion was essential to its success.
Furthermore, Diergaarde Blijdorp sent out a video to its supporters. The video gave a playful nod to the traditional analog lottery. With a digital lottery via Lotify, ticket issuance is fully automated, ensuring compliance, fairness, transparency, and reliability!
'Blijdorperts' as ambassadors
True 'Blijdorperts' could sign up as ambassadors for the lottery, earning a chance at extra prizes. They did this by creating a unique sales link, encouraging everyone to buy tickets through it.
The top 3 most-used links won a prize. The winners could choose between a behind-the-scenes tour for 7 people, a lesson with a zookeeper in the classroom, or a team-building activity in Diergaarde Blijdorp for 7 people.
Together, we make social impact!
Diergaarde Blijdorp’s goal is to inspire all its visitors to care for nature. Through education, research, and the conservation of endangered species, the zoo contributes to this cause. The proceeds from the lottery allowed them to continue their crucial conservation efforts even during the pandemic.
Thanks to its tremendous success, Diergaarde Blijdorp now regularly organizes lotteries via the Lotify platform. In the most recent drawing on January 12, 2024, more than €150,000 was raised.
