Gemeente Reimerswaal prevents frustration with a transparent digital sweepstake
Last year, the rain barrel giveaway campaign by the municipality of Reimerswaal ended in disappointment: the barrels were gone within minutes, leaving many residents empty-handed. To avoid a repeat this year, the municipality opted for a transparent and fair solution — a digital lottery via Lotify. Every participant had an equal chance, and the allocation process was smooth, secure, and fully compliant with legal regulations.

From disappointment to transparency
In 2023, residents could register for the giveaway through a first-come, first-served system. Demand was so high that the barrels were claimed in mere minutes. Many residents were left disappointed, prompting the municipality to rethink its approach for this year’s campaign.
Equal chance for every resident
Instead of a race against the clock, Reimerswaal chose a lottery format. Between May 13 and 18, 2024, residents could register via an online lottery form created with Lotify. A total of 1,155 people signed up. Each entry had an equal chance: the 440 winners were randomly selected using Lotify’s certified drawing system.
User-friendly and secure
Participants only needed to provide their name, address, date of birth, and email address. After registering, they received a confirmation by email. The drawing was conducted with full transparency and in compliance with Dutch gambling laws.
Strong community engagement
The campaign saw high participation and received many positive responses from residents. By organizing a sweepstake Reimerswaal ensured a fairer experience and showed it had taken last year’s feedback to heart.
