The municipality of Reimerswaal is dedicated to sustainability to improve the climate. For two consecutive years, they have been giving away rain barrels to residents with gardens so that rainwater can be reused for watering their gardens.

However, last year, the campaign didn’t go as smoothly as expected. Therefore, this year, they looked for an efficient way to fairly raffle the 440 available rain barrels.

Through an online lottery form provided by Lotify, participants were able to sign up for the rain barrel campaign over the course of 6 days. All 1,155 participants had an equal chance, and the winners were randomly selected.

Fair chance for every resident

At the end of 2023, residents were able to sign up for the first time to win a free rain barrel. Based on the "first come, first served" principle, each household could request one rain barrel via a special link. The rule for this campaign was: while supplies last. Due to high demand, the rain barrels were gone within minutes, leaving disappointed residents who weren’t able to get one.

The municipality also experienced this disappointment and received numerous messages from residents who had missed out. As a result, the rain barrel campaign was extended, with a search for a way to give every resident a fair chance. The solution was found in organizing a lottery through the Lotify platform.

Through the link https://regentonnenactie-reimerswaal.mylotify.com, Reimerswaal residents could sign up for the campaign from May 13 to May 18, 2024. After filling out their name, address, birth date, and email address, participants received email confirmation. The lucky winners were randomly selected via Lotify's certified lottery system, ensuring every participant had a fair chance.
